A.B. Data: who it is and how to check a notice or payment email
Updated · Sources
A.B. Data is a real company, A.B. Data, Ltd., a Milwaukee firm founded in 1981 that courts appoint to send class action notices and pay class members, including in the Visa and Mastercard non-bank ATM fee settlement covered on this site. Its payment emails lead to a portal with a long menu of payment choices that people have not seen before, and since we found no list of its cases on its website, the check runs through the court-authorized notice, the case website it names, and the court record.

What its real notices and payment emails carry
A.B. Data works case by case. Each case has its own website A.B. Data Class Action Administrationchecked October 1, 2026, according to its services page, and its contact page sends class members away from the corporate site. Case questions go to the case website A.B. Data Class Action Administrationchecked October 1, 2026.
The court-authorized long-form notice in the non-bank ATM case shows the usual parts. It opens with the line "A federal court authorized this notice. This is not a solicitation from a lawyer." Claim forms sent by mail go to c/o A.B. Data, Ltd., P.O. Box 173053, Milwaukee, WI 53217 U.S. District Court, D.D.C., Burke v. Visa Inc.checked October 1, 2026, a box in the company's home city with A.B. Data's name on the "c/o" line. The phone number and email address sit on the case's own domain. The dates and the official website for that case are on our ATM fee settlement page.
Notices go out through several channels at once. In the Point Park University case in Pennsylvania, an A.B. Data declaration lists an emailed notice, a mailed short-form notice, a toll-free number and a case website U.S. District Court, W.D. Pa., Figueroa v. Point Park University, No. 2:20-cv-01484checked October 1, 2026. In a pharmaceutical antitrust case in California, the court-filed notice plan used postcards, email with a link to the case website, banner ads and a toll-free line U.S. District Court, N.D. Cal., In re Xyrem Antitrust Litigation, No. 3:20-md-02966-RSchecked October 1, 2026.
The feature that draws the most questions is the payment email. In the ATM case the notice says payments go out as a payment link sent by email, with a check on request U.S. District Court, D.D.C., Burke v. Visa Inc.checked October 1, 2026. The choices it names are PayPal, virtual debit card, or a mailed check. In the Point Park case, the short-form notice offered a paper check, Venmo or PayPal, or a credit to the student account U.S. District Court, W.D. Pa., Figueroa v. Point Park University, No. 2:20-cv-01484checked October 1, 2026.
Behind those emails is a system A.B. Data calls its Digital PayPortal. On its own site the company sums it up in these terms:

- No personal banking information needed A.B. Data Class Action Administrationchecked October 1, 2026
- Over 250 digital options, such as Amazon, PayPal, Visa, Target A.B. Data Class Action Administrationchecked October 1, 2026

Why people doubt an A.B. Data notice or payment
The payment email offers store brands. An email that lets you take settlement money through a retailer's name looks like a promotion. For A.B. Data that menu is part of the payment system its own site describes.
There is no case list to look the notice up in. Reading abdataclassaction.com on turned up no list of cases; its contact page sends class members to the case website instead (Contact Us).
The sender address is unfamiliar. No source we read documents the domain A.B. Data's notice emails are sent from, so this page names none.
A name that sounds like a marketing company. Its own history says it started in direct marketing for nonprofit and advocacy groups. Its first class action, it says, was In re Holocaust Victim Assets Litigation (E.D.N.Y.) A.B. Data Class Action Administrationchecked October 1, 2026. The class action site and the parent group site share one address (A.B. Data Group, same Milwaukee address A.B. Data Groupchecked October 1, 2026).
Calls or letters from another city. Besides Milwaukee, the company lists offices in Palm Beach Gardens, New York, Washington DC, London, Tel Aviv A.B. Data Class Action Administrationchecked October 1, 2026; its Florida office is 5080 PGA Boulevard, Suite 209, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33418; (561) 336-1801.
How to check a notice when there is no case list
- From the notice or email, write down the case name, the court, the case number and the case website. Do not click any link yet.
- Skip the corporate site as a lookup. It has no list of cases, so your case will not appear there whether the notice is genuine or not.
- Find the case in the court record; our case lookup guide shows how. In that file, the order that approved notice (or the long-form notice attached to it) gives the administrator's name and the case website.
- Compare the website, phone number and P.O. box in the court-filed notice with the ones you received. In the ATM case, for example, the mail address reads "c/o A.B. Data, Ltd." with a Milwaukee box; the box that counts is the one in your own case's court-filed notice.
- For a payment email, type the case website's address yourself and use the contact details printed there. A.B. Data's main number, (414) 961-6400, reaches the company, but its own site says case questions belong on the case website.
Documented incidents and fact-checks
The court filings, government pages and fact-checks read for this page on contain no report of a fake notice sent in A.B. Data's name. That gap is not evidence either way.
The fraud A.B. Data writes about on its own site runs the other way: false claims filed against settlement funds. It runs a fraud detection and claim validation platform it calls Signal A.B. Data Class Action Administrationchecked October 1, 2026, and on May 12, 2025 A.B. Data Class Action Administrationchecked October 1, 2026, it announced a partnership with ClaimScore to detect them. Those pages are about screening claims, not about warning class members.
What A.B. Data says it does not ask for
A.B. Data has made two statements on the record that help here. In a court declaration filed in the pharmaceutical case, A.B. Data says it never asks for confidential information by e-mail U.S. District Court, N.D. Cal., In re Xyrem Antitrust Litigation, No. 3:20-md-02966-RSchecked October 1, 2026. The same declaration adds that the emails are digitally signed so that providers can authenticate A.B. Data's mail servers. And its PayPortal, as its own site describes it, asks for an email address and not for bank details. A request for something more, or for anything on the list of requests that official sources say a real payer doesn't make, is covered on our page about checking a notice.
